Review

"Johnson's hand-built ceramics explore the changing industrial landscape of the port of Adelaide. The direct human relationship is visible in both the surface imagery and small sculptural figures in this urban and industrial environment. Despite physically grounded ceramic forms it is quality of air that is elicited in these pieces. The pale muddy yellow and oranges used in the glazes give a sense of the remnants of the toxicity of industry yet the imagery and forms exude the possibility that the environment still breathes."
